Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho transfer conversation discussed by Jerome Boateng
BAYERN MUNICH star Jerome Boateng has revealed what he said to Jose Mourinho about why he didn’t want to join Manchester United.
Jerome Boateng displays incredible defensive skills
Boateng was one of a handful of defenders Mourinho looked at bringing to Manchester United over the summer, however he was left in a stand-off with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward after he failed to land the centre-back he deserves.
United launched a bid of £22million which was considerably short of the amount Bayern demanded (£50m).
Although Boateng also held talks with Paris Saint-Germain, a summer move failed to materialise as he preferred to stay at Bayern.
And the German star has explained why he felt he couldn’t join United during a conversation with Mourinho.
“I had enquiries from PSG and Manchester United,” Boateng told Bild.
“I did not want just to get away from Bayern, but I was thrilled to try a new challenge.
“I feel well at Bayern. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me.

“I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club.”
Meanwhile, another of Mourinho’s summer targets - Toby Alderweireld - has denied he wanted to quit Tottenham.
He said: “Everyone was saying everywhere that I absolutely wanted to leave Tottenham.

“That's not true. This summer, I quickly understood Tottenham wanted to keep me.
"So, I had to battle to get my place back in the team. To be in the first team again is a victory for me."
United return to action following the international break away to Watford on Saturday (5.30pm).
