Man Utd news: Diogo Dalot confirms injury update, sweats on Jose Mourinho
MANCHESTER UNITED new boy Diogo Dalot has finally declared himself fit to play.
Dalot joined the Red Devils in June from Portuguese giants Porto for a fee of £19million but didn't take part in the club’s pre-season tour of America due to injury.
United chief Jose Mourinho revealed the defender would miss the start of the new season, saying: "Dalot is injured, we knew he was injured, a small injury, a small surgery.
"He’s recovering really well, I think he can start training when we come back to England.
“He won’t be ready for the start of the season but ready I think for September."
Dalot hinted that he could make his long-awaited debut a few days before his new side’s drubbing at the hands of Tottenham.
And a little over a week removed from that 3-0 defeat, the Portuguese has announced that he’s finally ready to take to the pitch.
"If the manager thinks I'm ready and he wants me to play, I will play, for sure," the right-back told ESPN FC.
"I'm going to prepare myself for that and as soon as he wants me, I'll be ready.
If the manager thinks I'm ready and he wants me to play, I will play, for sure
"For sure, I'm going to become a better player here.
"The team have already helped me a lot and I've learned a lot in a short space of time from Antonio (Valencia), Matteo (Darmian), Ashley (Young) and Luke (Shaw). I'm looking forward to learning more.
"I think I can get better. We always think we can do better and I have to keep improving."
Despite having his United bow delayed by injury, Dalot hasn’t been frustrated by his time on the sidelines.
"It has not been frustrating because you have to be prepared for these things in football," the former Porto man added.
"I kept my mind always thinking just step by step. I'm one more step closer to where I want to be because I want to play.
"I'm very happy. My body is responding well. I'm happy and I'm looking forward to playing more and more.
"The team have helped me a lot during this recovery time. We are together, we are strong and I can't wait to start.
"I was looking forward to playing in this amazing stadium and I'm looking forward to playing here again."
Dalot could make his debut for last season’s Premier League runners-up a week on Saturday when United travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford.
