Celtic vs Rangers: Ex-Gers and Everton star Stuart McCall opens up on Old Firm - EXCLUSIVE
STEVEN GERRARD will benefit from his experience in the Merseyside derby when managing Rangers against Celtic this weekend.
That is the view of former Rangers manager Stuart McCall.
Gerrard joined Rangers this summer and has led the club to six wins and six draws so far.
Rangers can leapfrog Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table with a win at Parkhead on Sunday.
And McCall, who played for Everton for three years before joining Rangers in 1991, believes Gerrard will naturally take to the Old Firm.
Gerard will look forward to it
“It is special. It’s (Gerrard’s) first as a manager and it will be,” he told Express Sport.
“He comes in from a club, obviously two big, great footballing teams in Liverpool and Everton.
"There, he had the expectation and demands on him.
“He will go in and I think - ‘I was fortunate to play in both derbies’.
“Liverpool vs Everton was brilliant, they call it a friendly derby.
"But the Old Firm is something else. The atmosphere and the noise.
“But Gerrard being a winner like he is, a leader like he is, he will look forward to it.
“You don’t fear it, you relish it. So go and be the best you can be!”
McCall played for Rangers for seven years in the 1990s.
He left the Ibrox club for Bradford City, where he helped the club reach the Premier League.
McCall was this week appointed manager of Scunthorpe, having left his post as Bradford manager for a second time earlier this year.
He managed Rangers for a brief spell in 2015.
