RANGERS boss Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move for Gareth McAuley - but Hearts and Aberdeen are reportedly likelier destinations.

Rangers manager Gerrard is targeting late transfers as he aims to dethrone Celtic as Scottish Premiership winners at the first time of asking.
It has been a busy first summer for the Liverpool legend, who has brought in 12 new faces so far.
Rangers are aiming to win the title and Gerrard knows more recruits are needed if they are to be successful.
McAuley has been linked with a move after leaving West Brom at the end of last season.
The 38-year-old is currently a free agent, meaning he can join the Gers for nothing.
Yet BBC Sport say McAuley is likelier to end up at Hearts or Aberdeen.
Dons boss Derek McInnes is also reportedly looking to bring in a left-back.
Rangers, meanwhile, are also closing in on a deal for Osjiek star Eros Grezda.

And Gerrard has praised the imminent transfer, predicting fans will fall in love with the Albania winger.
Gerrard said: “Eros is currently having a medical and I don’t want to say too much until it’s over the line.
“But he is an excellent player and the fans will love him because he can contribute in the final third.
“He’s really quick, very direct and he comes in with international experience.
“According to Borna and Katic, he was by a mile Osijek’s best player last season.
“He is a very dangerous player and while you never want to see anyone injured, we are thankful he wasn’t available to play against us.
“All going well, hopefully he’ll be a big player for us moving forward.”
Rangers have until tomorrow to sign new recruits.
