Hugo Lloris: Will Tottenham star play against Man Utd? Ray Parlour gives verdict
HUGO LLORIS will feature for Tottenham against Manchester United this evening, according to former Arsenal star Ray Parlour.
The Frenchman was charged with drink driving on Friday after failing a roadside breathalyser in the early hours that morning.
Despite not training with his side earlier this week, Lloris has travelled north with his Tottenham team-mates for the trip to Old Trafford this evening.
But speculation remains as to whether the World Cup winning captain will return in between the sticks or be replaced by backup Michel Vorm.
However, Parlour believes Lloris will feature because of his importance to Mauricio Pochettino's men.
I'll be amazed if he doesn't play
"I'll be amazed if he doesn't play. We know that he's such an important player for Spurs, as we saw that he was in the World Cup for France," he told Sky Sports.
"It's bad news for him what has happened but I'm sure [Mauricio] Pochettino will assess the situation over the weekend.
"Strikers are going to score you the goals but goalkeepers are some of the most important people as well, they keep you in games at vital stages of games.
"I'm sure he'll be playing on Monday."
After failing the roadside breathalyser test in central London, at around 2.30am on Friday, Lloris was taken to Charing Cross Police Station before later being released on bail.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A man has been charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Place, W1.
"Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley was charged with drink driving on Friday, 24 August.
“He has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 September.”
Speaking after the incident, Lloris released a statement saying: “I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters.
“Drink driving is completely unacceptable, I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”
Tottenham have won both their games so far this season, beating Newcastle away and Fulham at home.
