Chelsea news: Jorginho produces AMAZING stat – star rated among top Premier League passers
JORGINHO has adapted quickly to Premier League life and is already setting the standard among top flight pass masters.
Chelsea star Jorginho is earning high praise for a string of impressive performances during his introductory games in the Premier League.
The Italian midfielder followed boss Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to Stamford Bridge in a £52million deal.
Jorginho's passing prowess caught the eye of Pep Guardiola while playing in Serie A, but the Blues swiped him away at the first opportunity after Sarri's appointment.
The Chelsea new boy has quickly become one of the top flight's top passers in the early stage of the season, and the stats that prove his credentials are incredible.
After three games, no other player has attempted or completed as many passes as Jorginho who has played the ball 338 times, with 311 passes reaching their targets.
He ranks almost 100 passes above the next top player on the list, and his individual numbers against Newcastle set a new Chelsea club record.
The 26-year-old completed 158 passes during the game at St James' Park, nine shy of Ilkay Gundogan's all-time Premier League record set last season.
Jorginho even accounted for 15 per cent possession in the entire game, with Newcastle's entire team mustering just 18 per cent combined.
Sarri will be delighted that his first investment is already paying dividends, and will hope for more huge displays from his midfield maestro.
But Jorginho isn't the only Blues player enjoying the new brand of passing football in west London.
Four other stars rank among the top 10 passers in the Premier League during the early stages of the season, while Liverpool also boast a trio of slick ball-playing aces.
Take a look through the images below to reveal which players have attempted the most passes in 2018/19 compared to Jorginho.
