Real Madrid transfer news: Robert Lewandowski takes aim at Bayern amid Bernabeu rumours
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI has insisted he has no intention of leaving Bayern Munich, though he has fired a huge shot at the club for failing to stand up for him.
Lewandowski, who has been one of Bayern’s star performers ever since he moved to the Allianz Arena in 2014, came in for intense criticism after the turn of the New Year.
The Poland international ended the 2017/18 season with an impressive 41 goals in 48 appearances, 29 of which came in 30 league appearances.
His impressive form is understood to have attracted the attention of a plethora of teams in Europe, including Real Madrid - who are on the lookout for a marquee signing before the close of the Spanish transfer window.
Lewandowski is well aware of the interest in acquiring his services but is more than happy to stay with Bundesliga champions, even though he feels let down by them.
“In April and May everyone criticised me,” the former Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw hitman said.
“And I felt no protection from the club, I felt alone.
“I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was saying: ‘Open fire against Lewandowski!’ I did not see anyone who supported me at the time.
“Neither of the club bosses defended me. I did not feel good in Munich at that moment. Being at Bayern did not fit for me at that time.”
I’m not wasting any thought on another club now
Lewandowski was keen to leave Munich but performed a U-turn after he received an overwhelming amount of support from Bayern fans.
“I noticed that in Munich the fans support me,” he added.
“I realised that they still want me here. I will never strike, never mess with the club.
“I’m not wasting any thought on another club now.”
Lewandowski, 30, began the new season the same way he ended the last campaign, bagging four goals in Bayern’s first two matches.
The Pole is expected to lead the line on Friday night when Jupp Heynckes’ men welcome Hoffenheim to the Allianz Arena.
