Arsenal news: Jermaine Jenas makes Aaron Ramsey contract standoff claim
AARON RAMSEY is not putting pen to paper on a new Arsenal deal due to being unhappy with his position, claims Jermaine Jenas.
The Welshman is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates and currently appears unwilling to sign a new deal in north London.
Ramsey featured from the outset for Arsenal during their 2-0 defeat against Manchester City last weekend.
But Jenas believes the Gunners star is unhappy with his current position in Unai Emery's side, hence the current contract stand-off.
“For their sake, they need to go down that road because the Aaron Ramsey situation didn't work,” he told BT Sport.
I think he wants to play higher up the pitch
“I think he wants to play higher up the pitch and I get the feeling it was more Ramsey’s decision than Emery's.
“The fact Ramsey hasn't signed - you can’t tell me there has not been a conversation along the lines of 'what is it, then, that you want?’
"Because he isn't a greedy person.
"I think Ramsey just wants to play in the position he wants to be.
"I think he wants to play higher up, but I’m not sure if it suits him."
Jenas has also called on Emery to play both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack against Chelsea this weekend.
"They look much better with Lacazette on the pitch.
"I think he will cause problems (at Chelsea) with Aubameyang," he continued.
“For Arsenal, surely Emery has to go more defensive, but who bites the dust to do that?
"It wouldn't surprise me if someone like Mkhitaryan is not starting.
"I'm not sure Emery has enough about him yet to drop Mesut Ozil, although the game doesn't really play into Ozil's hands, I don't think.
"But we will see, it will be interesting.”
