The Italian is still getting to know his squad after a late arrival in west London, coupled with the fact a host of stars returned to the club late after the World Cup.
Sarri has opted to give Cesar Azpiliecueta the captaincy duties for tonight's London derby with Arsenal.
But the former Napoli boss admits he is not ready to hand the Spaniard the role on a full-time basis just yet.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Sarri said: "But, as I said last week, for the moment the captain is [Cesar] Azpilicueta.

Gary Cahill was the club skipper last term but is not a guaranteed starter at Stamford Bridge these days.
But Sarri didn't rule out the defender retaining the armband.

"I don't know," he continued.
"Maybe Cahill.
"But I'd like to know very well the players [first]."
Sarri got his Blues reign off to a perfect start away at Huddersfield last Saturday, securing a 3-0 win thanks to goals from N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Pedro.
But the new Chelsea chief insists it will take time for his new side to reach the level he desires.
