Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp makes Ragnar Klavan claim, provides injury update
JURGEN KLOPP has insisted he is the one who gives a final say on any outgoings and incomings amid reports Ragnar Klavan is set to join Cagliari.
The Serie A transfer window closes this evening 7pm (BST) and Cagliari are seemingly closing in on completing a last-minute swoop for Klavan.
The Estonian had fallen down the pecking order at Anfield with Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren all ahead of him.
And reports emerged this morning that Liverpool had accepted a £2million bid from the Italian outfit for Klavan to leave.
Klopp states those reports are not completely factual as any deal hasn’t been finalised, but suggests the transfer is close.
“I didn't hear about anything being finally sorted,” Klopp said.
“But I said before in general that it's possible players could leave the club and that will happen if it's good for everyone.
“We will see what happens.
“No player would leave the club if I would not allow it.
“If [Klavan] leaves then I will have said yes to it.”
Matip’s injury woes look as though they could finally be behind him with Klopp hopeful of having the centre-back available for Monday night’s clash against Crystal Palace.
And the Liverpool boss left Klavan off the list of defenders when naming other options behind Gomez, Van Dijk and Matip.
“We have the others as well. Joel is close to being back and will hopefully be in the squad on Monday,” he said.
“Dejan is still a bit injured. We have Matt Phillips and if we need Fabinho can play the position as well.
“We have enough players so now we have to see who fits to which opponent the best.”
