Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho ‘will lose’ fight with Paul Pogba
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho will eventually lose the fight with Paul Pogba and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
Those are the views of former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright.
Mourinho and Pogba have not always seen eye to eye since they started working with each other at Manchester United in 2016.
Pogba was briefly left out of the United starting XI in the second half of last season amid rumours the pair had fallen out.
The Frenchman has now fuelled speculation over his future at the club following his side’s 2-1 opening day win over Leicester.
I think it’s a fight Mourinho is having with Pogba and Ed Woodward that I think eventually he will lose
When asked if he was happy and comfortable at United, Paul Pogba said: "There are things, and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fined.”
Wright believes it is clear the comments are aimed at Mourinho.
And he claims Pogba will come out on top in the end because he is more powerful than his manager.
“I think the players, everybody loves him, the fans love him,” Wright said of Pogba on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Obviously Ed Woodward loves him, because he’s not only a magnificent player but on the commercial side he’s a massive, massive asset to Manchester United.
“I think it’s a fight Mourinho is having with Pogba and Ed Woodward that I think eventually he will lose.
“Those two guys are much more powerful than Jose Mourinho.
“When he says that, the reason why he says that, is because he has been empowered.
“He obviously knows he can say something like that, which is a veiled dig at his manager saying he would like to say things obviously about his manager, that if he said, he’ll get fined.
“It’s simple.”
United are back in action this Sunday when they travel to Brighton (4pm).
Chris Hughton's side lost their opener at Watford 2-0 last Saturday thanks to a brace from Roberto Pereyra.
