Liverpool transfer news: New signing is 'one of missing parts of jigsaw' - Sky Sports man
LIVERPOOL new boy Alisson is one of the final pieces of the jigsaw that Jurgen Klopp needed at Anfield.
Liverpool: Alisson stuns with 50-yard pass to Mo Salah
That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit Dennis Wise, who has singled out the Brazilian as the most impressive goalkeeper of the Premier League’s opening weekend.
Liverpool made buying a new No 1 a priority this summer, particularly in the wake of Loris Karius’ Champions League final horror show.
Alisson emerged from a strong field of candidates which included the likes of Jan Oblak and Jack Butland to become Klopp’s first-choice target.
Liverpool wrapped up a deal to prise the 25-year-old away from Roma in a then world-record £65m deal last month.
Alisson has so far figured just three times for Liverpool, in friendly wins over Napoli and Torino as well as Sunday’s Premier League thrashing of West Ham.
But it seems he has left an impression on Wise, who says signing a goalkeeper was imperative for Klopp.
"Alisson's distribution was fantastic and of all the goalkeepers in action at the weekend I thought he was the best," Wise told Sky Sports.
"Everything he did he did correctly.
"Jurgen Klopp has added to the places where he really needed players and that's key for Liverpool.
"The goalkeeper was massive for them; that was something that was needed and his distribution was absolutely outstanding as well as his overall presence.
"He is one of the missing parts of the jigsaw for Liverpool."
Alisson followed Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri in joining Liverpool as part of Klopp’s summer spending spree.
Fabinho has now revealed Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva helped convince him to head to the Premier League.
"[Silva] told me how much I would like Liverpool and how impressed he was by the way people here live, and breathe football,” Fabinho said.
"We were good friends at Monaco and he was one of the best players there.
"We had a real understanding, and I'm really happy for him that he won the title last season.
"I wish him plenty of individual success this season, but not the title!
"I'd been at Monaco for many years, and I believe it was time for a change.
"I wanted to move to a massive club with ambition that are fighting for titles.
"It was between the English league and the Spanish league.
"This is a massive club, and if this is not the best league in the world, it's one of the two biggest championships in the world."
Liverpool are back in action on Monday when they head to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace.
