Arsenal news: Unai Emery made one big mistake against Manchester City - Dennis Wise
ARSENAL do not have the correct style of players to play out from the back, so should stick to a formula they know well.
Sam Allardyce slams Unai Emery after Manchester City clash
That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit and former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise.
Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City on Sunday in Unai Emery’s first competitive game in charge.
From the start it was clear Emery had instructed his goalkeeper and defenders to build from the back.
However, Petr Cech in goal was less than convincing and almost scored an own goal when trying to find a team-mate.
I don’t think at the moment they have the personnel to be able to play
Wise says Arsenal’s tactic helped City and their pressing style.
And he believes the Gunners should revert back to a more conventional way of playing from a goal kick.
“I think they played at times a little bit into their hands,” Wise said of Arsenal.
“Trying to play out of the back in the manner that they did.
“I’m not sure at times they are good enough to play out of the back.
“I think Petr Cech was encouraged to play, I think he tried to play. He nearly put one into his own goal.
“Then he decided at times to push the team up and kicked it long an the crowd went ‘yay’, so it’s quite interesting.
“I don’t think at the moment they have the personnel to be able to play.
“I think at times when you haven’t got that personnel, you stick to what you’ve got, the players and what they’re capable to do.”
Arsenal's next game is against Chelsea next Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
It will be Maurizio Sarri's first home game in charge of the Blues.
Chelsea won their opening game of the season 3-0 at Huddersfield on Saturday thanks to goals from N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Pedro.
