Chelsea transfer news: Eden Hazard and Willian could both leave this month - Le Tissier
CHELSEA could lose both Eden Hazard and Willian this month if the money offered is right, says Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier.
The English transfer window shut on Thursday, meaning Chelsea can no longer sign any new players until January.
However, many windows across Europe are open until the end of August.
Both Eden Hazard and Willian have been linked with move away from Chelsea this summer, with Real Madrid keen on Hazard and Barcelona having several bids rejected for Willian.
Asked whether Hazard or Willian could leave despite Chelsea not being able to buy any replacements, Le Tissier said: “I don’t think you can take it as a given (that they will stay).
If somebody came in, a Barcelona came back in for Willian at £90m or something, would you turn it down?
“The opportunity is there and if somebody came in, a Barcelona came back in for Willian at £90m or something, would you turn it down?
“As a business can you turn it down? That’s a lot of money.”
But Le Tissier says ultimately the decision is with the club as to whether Hazard or Willian stay or go.
“That’s when you’ve got to look at what you’ve got in the rest of your squad,” the Southampton legend added.
“You have to look at the rest of the squad and think ‘can I have a reasonable challenge with what I’ve got left? Can I get through to January?’.
“Then you can go out and get a replacement for him.
“Those are the decisions you have to make, but at the end of the day, they have a choice whether to say yes or no.
“So I don’t get the argument that the clubs and people are moaning that ‘our window closes here and the European window closes there’.
“It doesn’t really matter because you can say no.”
Chelsea start their Premier League campaign away to Huddersfield today (3pm).
Willian was named in the starting XI, with Hazard taking up a place on the substitutes bench.
Italy midfielder Jorginho and Spanish goalkeeper Kepa were handed their Premier League debuts.
