Canadian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton reacts to poor qualifying performance
LEWIS HAMILTON was left downbeat after finishing fourth in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Brit locked up at the hairpin on the final lap of Q3 to scupper his chances of overtaking pace-setter Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton will be scratching his head this evening, wondering how the Finn is set to start ahead of him on the grid after seemingly finding time from nowhere in the final stages of Saturday's qualifying.
And speaking afterwards, the reigning champion seemed disheartened with his performance.
"It was just a difficult session," he said.
"Just the laps weren't good laps.
I don't think it was anything to do with the engine
"Our race pace was quite good yesterday. Just today didn't come together.
"I don't think it was anything to do with the engine."
Hamilton was asked whether the Ferrari's were in reach on Sunday.
But the Mercedes ace wasn't keen to discuss his chances of catching Vettel in Montreal.
"Listen I haven't looked into to be honest," he continued.
"I think it was all quite close between us but they did a better job today.
"And that's the way it is."

Meanwhile, Ferrari's Vettel was certainly happy with his qualifying performance after setting a new track record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
"I think we were a bit in trouble," he told Sky Sports.
"I wasn't really happy with the car.
"Yesterday was very difficult.
"What a day, I think the car was incredible in quali.
"It was fantastic, so thanks to the team, thanks for fixing the car yesterday after I hit the wall a little bit.
"A very good day."
