Lewis Hamilton tears into Monaco Grand Prix after defeat to Daniel Ricciardo
LEWIS HAMILTON has blasted the Monaco Grand Prix as the “most boring” race of his life.
Hamilton started and finished third in a mundane race in Monte Carlo.
Daniel Ricciardo claimed his second win of the season from pole position and he never looked like giving his position away, even though he suffered a major power fault.
Sebastian Vettel completed the top three to close the gap to Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship to just 14 points.
But Hamilton was frustrated with the lack of overtaking opportunities in France and did not hold back in his criticism.
"Thank God that's over, that was the most boring race I've ever participated in,” Hamilton said over his team radio.
It felt like the longest race I've ever done probably, it was quite a long race
The four-time world champion then echoed those remarks when he faced the press.
"Our car is very long and struggled with the graining,” he added.
"But yeah, to go away here after such a long race, it felt like the longest race I've ever done probably, it was quite a long race!
“I’m looking forward to the following races, hopefully they'll be more fun."
Hamilton’s only regret is that he was unable to qualify ahead of Vettel as it meant he surrendered part of his world championship lead.
"Ultimately we knew coming here was going to be difficult for us,” he said.
“It was a much, much better weekend than we had last year.
“I think collectively we did a good job.
“I think maybe a couple more tenths in qualifying, maybe it would have been second place, but we would have struggled to stay ahead of Sebastian."
