McLaren reveal Jenson Button's driving role for 2017
JENSON BUTTON will be McLaren's third driver for 2017 and will attend a number of races during the season, the team has today confirmed.
Jenson Button will remain at McLaren for at least 2017
Button stepped down from his job as Fernando Alonso's team-mate at the end of 2016 season after 17 seasons in the sport with five different teams.
However, the Brit refused to confirm that he would be retiring, instead claiming 2017 would be a sabbatical year for him.
And speaking at the McLaren launch of their new car, team boss Eric Boullier confirmed that Button would act as the team's third driver behind Alonso and F1 rookie Stoffel Vandoorne.
"They did a check round with everyone to hear the situation.
"Mine was very clear."
