Britain's Jenson Button finishes third after Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo is disqualified
RED BULL'S Daniel Ricciardo cut a forlorn figure having been stripped of his first Formula One podium finish in the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, after his car was found to have broken fuel regulations.
The decision meant that McLaren's Danish new boy Kevin Magnussen moved up from third to second on is debut, while team mate Jenson Button took third place.
Red Bull said they had notified the governing body immediately of their intention to appeal.
"Inconsistencies with the FIA fuel flow meter have been prevalent all weekend up and down the pit lane," the team said. "The Team and Renault are confident the fuel supplied to the engine is in full compliance with the regulations."
The result will not effect Nico Rosberg who stomed to a 24.5 second victory, 29 years after his father's last Australian win.
The Mercedes man dominated an eventful race that saw four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel fail to finish, and Kamui Kobayashi plough his Caterham into the back of Felipe Massa's Williams.
