Ayrton Senna's death haunts Red Bull engineer Adrian Newey
RED BULL engineer Adrian Newey admits he remains “haunted” by Ayrton Senna’s death in one of his cars 19 years ago.
Newey, speaking to the BBC ahead of this week’s Korean Grand Prix, was chief designer at Williams when three-time world champion Senna was killed in a crash at the San Marino GP in 1994.
“What happened that day still haunts me,” he said. “No one will ever know whether the accident was caused by driver error or steering-column failure.”
