As far as many sports fans are concerned, TV pundits have some of the very best jobs around. Now, Formula 1 lovers have the chance to get a taste of what it feels like for themselves as Sky Sports search for their new 'Grid Insider'.

Sky has already confirmed their punditry line-up for the new season, having announced in full its roster of on-screen talent ahead of last weekend's Australian Grand Prix. While no new additions were named, it was confirmed that pundit Danica Patrick and the broadcaster have parted ways, while presenter Natalie Pinkham and analyst Naomi Schiff will return after recovering from neck surgery and maternity leave respectively.

While Sky's permanent roster is set, the broadcaster is looking for "a standout creator" to feature as part of their coverage later this season. The winner will become Sky's ‘Grid Insider' and receive a swathe of opportunities to feature on the company's wider coverage of F1, joining Sky’s line-up in what is being described as a temporary paid opportunity, exclusive to this season.

They will get the chance to present a segment of The F1 Show, which is a core part of race weekend coverage on a Friday. They will also get the chance to host an episode of Paddock Pass on social media and feature as a guest on The F1 Show podcast. They will also host an official Sky Sports F1 watch part for a Grand Prix, and get to experience one for themselves with a behind-the-scenes experience at a race weekend.

The search began last week when Sky released a spoof video starring some of its most beloved stars of the screen, holding an X Factor-style audition. Analysts Jenson Button and Bernie Collins, along with presenter Pinkham, form the judging panel and Martin Brundle plays the behind-the-scenes host as the likes of comedian Munya Chawawa, impressionist Conor Moore and creator Bella James try – and fail – to impress.

Those who think they have what it takes to make more of a mark are being invited to create a piece of content which "showcases their creativity, know-how and ability to entertain". They can submit their application at skysportsgridinsider.sky.com to be in with a chance of winning the once-in-a-lifetime prize.

Button, the 2009 F1 world champion, said: "The explosion of F1's popularity is in large part due to the growing creator and fan community. Sky Sports has launched this competition which is an unbelievable opportunity for a creator with passion and genuine knowledge of the sport to show that they can entertain, inform and deliver on the biggest stage.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the creativity and personality creators bring as well as welcoming the eventual winner to the team this season."
