Max Verstappen sent a warning to the FIA over the radio during the opening laps of the Hungarian Grand Prix after he was forced to concede a position to Lando Norris.

The reigning world champion started the race from third on the grid but following a slow start from polesitter Norris, Verstappen was able to launch a gutsy move around the outside at Turn One.

Unbeknown to Verstappen was the fact that Oscar Piastri was challenging for the lead on the inside, forcing Norris to take a wider entry into the corner. This meant that there was no room for the Red Bull man on the exit of the first turn.

Sensing an opportunity, Verstappen soared around the outside on the run-off area and entered Turn Two ahead of Norris, who was left to fight off Lewis Hamilton.

This left Norris furious, and the FIA duly placed the incident under investigation. In an attempt to avoid a five-second time penalty, Gianpiero Lambiase told his driver to hand the position back to the McLaren man.

Verstappen obeyed these orders, but not without a protest. "OK, so you can just drive people off the track then?" he fumed on the radio after conceding second place. "You can tell the FIA that's how we're going to race from now onwards. Just driving people off the road."

After giving up over a second to allow Norris past on lap three, Verstappen found himself three seconds behind race leader Piastri, who put himself in an excellent position to claim a maiden Grand Prix victory.

By the time lap 15 rolled around, Verstappen was over six seconds behind the race leader, and three seconds behind Norris, who headed into the weekend 84 points behind the championship leader.

This incident was the latest clash between the two, who boast a close friendship away from the racetrack but are enjoying some intense tussles in the world of F1.
