Helmut Marko has reiterated that Sergio Perez's future will be decided after the Belgian Grand Prix. The Mexican racer crashed during Q1 in Hungary amid increasing pressure from all sides.

Reports first emerged at Silverstone suggesting that Perez has two races to save his Red Bull career, and this was confirmed by Marko upon arrival at the Hungaroring.

The pressure on Perez was already extreme heading into the weekend, and the six-time Grand Prix winner immediately turned the heat up when qualifying got underway. He collided with the Turn Eight barriers during Q1, bringing his session to an end and resigning himself to a P16 grid slot for Sunday's race.

This impact will have no doubt harmed Perez's chances of retaining his seat, but according to Marko, the timeline has not changed. "We'll wait for the next race in Spa," he told Sky Germany. "Then we'll decide."

Despite the looming performance review, Perez is keeping a cool head. “Like I said before nothing changes, I’m not worried,” he explained. “I’m fully determined to turn my season around and to focus on my performance.”

The Guadalajara-born racer added: "I was just on a good lap but in hindsight probably we didn’t need that lap, it’s something we will review. But I think these conditions can catch out anyone out there, but unfortunately, it has been me two in a row.

“I mean, I’m determined to turn things around, it’s quite hard to face all the media after all these difficult moments, but I think when we get back to it it will be even sweeter.”

Perez currently sits just eight points clear of eighth-placed Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers' Championship standings and could feasibly drop below both Mercedes drivers before he arrives in Spa next weekend.

However, the real jeopardy comes in the Constructors' Championship, where McLaren have a wonderful chance to eat into Red Bull's 78-point advantage after locking out the front row with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
