Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton's attentions will soon turn to the Spanish Grand Prix as F1 stars enjoy a short break following the conclusion of last weekend's thrilling Canadian GP.

Verstappen ran out winner yet again after a few mediocre weeks for Red Bull, finishing ahead of Lando Norris and George Russell.

There was heartbreak for Hamilton however, as he was pipped to the final podium spot at the death in Montreal by his Mercedes team-mate.

And Hamilton was in a dejected mood afterwards, labelling his weekend as a 'really poor performance' from himself. He said: "Yesterday… some other things came into it yesterday, but mostly myself, and then today, one of the worst races I have ever driven. Just lots of mistakes. But obviously, if I had qualified better, I would have been in a better position."

Toto Wolff has now responded to the seven-time world champion, urging his drivers not to let "negative sentiments" take over as the season goes on.

Zhou unsure of F1 future

Zhou Guanyu is still unsure about whether he'll be in F1 or not in 2025.

The Sauber driver is at risk of losing his seat with Nico Hulkenberg confirmed to be joining the team next year.

That means either Zhou or team-mate Valtteri Bottas will be moved on. There are only eight seats free for 2025 and many of them have drivers lined up for them.

Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo should be at VCARB with Carlos Sainz in line to go to Williams. Kimi Antonelli could take Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes seat.

That leaves the Stake slot, two drives at Haas (but Oliver Bearman is set to take one of them) and two spots at Alpine, though Pierre Gasly should retain his drive.

And Zhou admitted after the Canadian Grand Prix: "I feel like there should be a spot for me. I just don't know where."

Verstappen snubs Russell

There are several candidates to become future world champions in the sport, including George Russell, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.

However, Verstappen snubbed the Mercedes man when he gave his verdict on future title winners.

When asked by DAZN Espana to 'bet a dinner' on the driver most likely to win a world title, he name-dropped Norris and Leclerc.

Villeneuve launches another attack on Ricciardo again

Jacques Villeneuve has once again taken aim at Daniel Ricciardo, branding the VCARB driver as "childish".

It comes after the ex-world champion brutally questioned why Ricciardo was still in F1 after a very tough start to the season.

The Aussie hit back, replying: "I heard he's been talking s**t, but he always does. I think he's hit his head a few too many times. So I don't know if he plays ice hockey or something. I won't give him the time of day but all those people can suck it. I want to say more but we'll leave him behind."

Ricciardo proved Villeneuve wrong by finishing eighth in Canada, but that didn't stop the latter from calling him out again.

Hamilton replacement 'picked' as Wolff accusation made

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has been accused of choosing Lewis Hamilton's successor based on 'ego'.

Carlos Sainz was tipped to replace Ferrari-bound Hamilton but Wolff dispelled those rumours in Canada.

And former world champion Jacques Villeneuve believes Andrea Kimi Antonelli is set to race for Mercedes next year. And he stated that Wolff’s own ego was the driving factor behind the call to promote him...

Horner issues cheeky reply to Mercedes

Christian Horner couldn't help but aim a cheeky dig at Mercedes after Red Bull came in for criticism.

Mercedes' James Allison claimed before the Canadian GP that Red Bull's recent upgrade package was in fact a 'downgrade' amid their recent mini-slump.

However, Horner has now hit back following Max Verstappen's win in Canada, replying: "Well, even with our downgrade, we managed to beat their upgrade. So it was a rewarding race to win."

Russell risk causing Wolff headache

George Russell's performance in Canada attracted mixed responses. He started on pole but finished third as Max Verstappen claimed the victory ahead of Lando Norris.

He has got the better of Lewis Hamilton so far this season but a handful of costly errors from him have sparked concerns over his long-ter viability as a team leader.

Marko appears at odds with Red Bull decision

Helmut Marko has suggested Red Bull may have not made the correct decision to award Sergio Perez a new contract, with his verdict on who has the strongest line-up in F1.

Perez recently signed a new two-year contract extension following doubts over his future amid a mixed run of form.

And when quizzed on what team possesses the most talent, the Red Bull advisor told Le Journal de Montreal: "Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at McLaren. They are young and they are hungry. Currently, they get along well and work well together."

Verstappen shows true colours with Russell comment

Max Verstappen has offered support to George Russell after privately confronting the young Mercedes driver at the Canadian GP.

Russell finished third during the race, and was left frustrated after a couple of errors. But Verstappen offered him reassurance that the Brit would learn from the race.

"For sure [it was a three-way battle]. I think overall, when you look, Mercedes had the fastest car," Verstappen told Sky Sports F1.

"So, of course, I would also be disappointed, but it's so easy to make a mistake.

"I literally told George [Russell the same thing] already before because he was a bit upset with himself probably. These things can happen. We're all pushing to the limit.

"Sometimes it works out for you; sometimes you make one mistake too much, and it can catch you out. But that's racing as well. I'm sure he will look back and learn from it.

Wolff issues message to Hamilton

Toto Wolff has told his drivers not to let "negative sentients" get in their way after the Canadian Grand Prix, which was a mixed bag for Mercedes.

Russell snatched the final podium spot from Hamilton and the experienced Brit was left frustrated by his own display after.

But Wolff doesn't want his drivers feeling sorry for themselves, saying: "I think when you finish third and fourth, from where we have been coming from, then it is a positive race.

"Third and fourth is so much better than we had previously in the last few races, so that is good, but I think both drivers saw that there was more up for grabs.

"We could have gained a position or two, and that is why there is a kind of negative sentiment, but if you would have given them third and fourth before the weekend, they probably would have taken it.

"I mean in FP3, Lewis put up a lap that was out of this world, and then his long run was stratospheric, galactical."
