Motorsport one of nine new events Olympic committee to consider adding to 2028 Games
Motorsport could be joining the list of Olympic sports with a verdict on its inclusion expected soon.
Fans could soon see Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and their fellow F1 stars battle drivers from other series across the globe with motorsport in line for a sensational addition to the list of Olympic sports for the 2028 games, which will be hosted in Los Angeles.
As reported by Reuters, Motorsport is one of nine different sports pushing for inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games, alongside the likes of cricket, squash, lacrosse, breakdancing,
The decision-making process has two steps, with the local organisers first dictating which of the nine applications will be granted entry to the games, before letting the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirm their introductions when they meet in Mumbai this October.
While fans will have to wait until October for official confirmation of motorsport’s Olympic entry, an early decision on its inclusion is expected in the next couple of weeks.

This would be an exciting proposition for motorsport fans around the globe, with F1 viewers potentially able to watch the likes of Verstappen, Hamilton and Leclerc compete for their countries against the finest drivers from other series around the world.
The idea of potentially watching F1 world champions mixing it with the likes of IndyCar legend Scott Dixon, Supercars sensation Shane van Gisbergen and NASCAR icon Chase Elliott would be a dream come true, although it remains to be seen how the structure of Olympic motorsport would pan out.

Bizarrely, this wouldn’t be the first time that drivers from around the world came together to battle for their countries. The A1 Grand Prix series, which came into effect in 2005 before liquidating in 2009, was promoted as the 'World Cup of Motorsport', and attempted to bring nation-vs-nation competition to the motorsport world.
A1 Grand Prix attracted some big names such as Nico Hulkenberg, Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti, while drivers from as many as 29 countries participated, but inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games would take the concept onto a whole new level.
Some scheduling issues would have to be worked out if drivers from F1, NASCAR, World Endurance Championship, WRC and IndyCar are all to compete in the games, but if possible it would represent an exciting new dawn for global motorsport.
