Spanish Grand Prix: Hamilton sets fastest time in practice lap
The clear story of the season so far has been the battle at Mercedes.
Bottas and Hamilton are only separated by one point in the standings, with the former just out in front.
Ferrari and Red Bull have so been unable to present a real challenge to the leading constructor, although the former have somewhat closed the gap this week in Barcelona.
Still, heading into the Spanish Grand Prix, the expectation is to see one of the Mercedes drivers standing on top of the podium.
Bottas looks like a driver reborn this season, bursting with confidence which is growing each week.
The Finn hasn’t put a foot wrong all year - and neither has Hamilton for that matter - but a third consecutive pole position has him slightly ahead of Hamilton heading into the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton has look composed all year and the one point difference between him and Bottas hasn’t fazed him as of yet.
However, Button, who was a team-mate of Hamilton’s for three years at McLaren, believes the Brit has the capability to “destroy” his opponents on any given day.
"We all go through moments of highs and lows and emotions, especially before a race, and it’s difficult to say too much,” Button said on Sky Sports.
“Lewis always has ups and downs, but he’s always quick.
"I remember when we were team-mates, one day he would have a tough race and then the next day he would just destroy everyone and come back so strong.
"I remember when we were team-mates, one day he would have a tough race and then the next day he would just destroy everyone and come back so strong.
"Yesterday wasn’t the best day for him, but today he could absolutely blitz it.
“That’s what makes for an exciting race today.
“I think we’re going to see a great race between those two."
