Jonny Bairstow headbutt: Cameron Bancroft gives HILARIOUS explanation of incident
CAMERON BANCROFT has hilariously played down reports that Jonny Bairstow headbutted him.
Cameron Bancroft gave a detailed account of what really happened with Jonny Bairstow
While England were heading to a heavy defeat to Australia in the opening first test of the Ashes, there was a scandal that risked further dampening the visitor’s first few days down under.
Team director Andrew Strauss was forced to investigate allegations in the Australia media that Barstow had become involved in an altercation with Bancroft in a bar prior to the test.
It once again highlighted England’s off-field behaviour as a concern, drawing comparisons to past Ashes series.
But Bancroft playfully brushed off the incident as nothing more than a strange greeting between the two in a friendly manner.
“I remember it very clearly,” Bancroft said.
“It was very friendly mingling the whole night. As the night progressed it was great to meet some of those (England) guys.
“I got into a very amicable conversation with Jonny and he greeted me with a headbutt kind of thing.
“I was expecting a handshake. It wasn’t the greeting of choice I expected.
“There was no malice in his action and we continued having a very good conversation for the rest of the evening.
Jonny Bairstow opted for a headbutt to greet Cameron Bancroft
“At the time he said sorry. It was just really weird. It was so random.
“I certainly didn’t expect it coming. A handshake or hug was something I expected more than a headbutt.
“There was certainly nothing malicious about his action.
“I don’t know Jonny Bairstow but he says hello to people very differently than most others.”
