Moeen Ali leads the way as England rack up huge total in ODI warm-up game
MOEEN ALI returned to form as England racked up a huge total in their one-day international warm-up against Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Oval.
Moeen Ali scored a fluent 71
There were heartening scores for several batsmen as Eoin Morgan’s team began their limited-overs campaign by setting their opponents 342-8.
Moeen (71), Alex Hales (64) and Jos Buttler (56) all came into this fixture in need of confidence-boosting runs after their recent travails – and it was mission accomplished.
Jason Roy provided most of England’s early momentum, with 42 off 32 ballsbefore he was given out lbw in the ninth over. Hales then moved past his 50 before being bowled by Anshuman Rath.
Alex Hales hit 64
England’s batsmen all made double figures.
Joe Root, Morgan – in his first innings since being hit on the helmet by a Mitchell Starc bouncer at Old Trafford in September – and James Taylor will therefore all head into Wednesday’s first ODI against Pakistan, at the adjacent Sheikh Zayed Stadium, with handy runs under their belts.
