Tyson Fury has finally spoken out following the shocking news of his long-standing adversary, Anthony Joshua, being involved in a horrific car accident in Nigeria on Monday. Joshua, aged 36, was immediately taken to hospital after suffering 'minor' injuries in the terrifying crash that tragically claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The former two-time unified heavyweight world champion appeared to be in considerable pain as he was helped from the wreckage, with bystanders rushing to assist those caught up in the incident. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's long-term promoter who is currently holidaying in the Caribbean, informed the Mirror that Joshua was stable and en route to the hospital, but couldn't provide further details at the time.

Tributes have been flooding in following the fatal accident, which took place along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Sinoma area close to Sagamu, Ogun State. Sina Ghami and Kevin Ayodele lost their lives when the black Lexus Jeep they were travelling in - with Joshua also onboard as a passenger - collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck.

Upon learning of the tragic news, Fury paid his respects on Tuesday. In an Instagram story, the British boxer shared a post confirming the passing of both Ghami and Ayodele, captioning it: ''This is so sad. May god give them a good bed in heaven."

In another comment, he poignantly wrote: "There is no tomorrow. live, love, and give."

A full statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps read: "The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a Lexus Jeep conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck.

"Preliminary reports from the Ogun Sector Command indicate that the crash occurred at about 1200HRS and was promptly reported to the Corps. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three (3) minutes of notification, enabling swift rescue operations.

"The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private) and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with unknown registration number. A total of five adult males were involved in the crash. Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt.

"Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries. The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was duly notified for further investigation and necessary documentation."

Despite initial reports suggesting Joshua suffered only 'minor' injuries in the crash, fears are growing that his condition could be more serious than first believed. As per the Daily Mail, insiders close to the heavyweight champion worry that the extent of his injuries may be greater, with potential damage to his ribs and knee mentioned by a member of his tight-knit circle.

Adding to this, Joshua must grapple with the heart-wrenching trauma of losing two close friends in the accident. Both Latif and Sina were instrumental figures in the Brit's career, with Sina - a strength and conditioning coach - even part of 'AJ's' team for his knockout win over Jake Paul earlier this month.

Those paying their respects outside Joshua's coach's gym believe it will be "very difficult" for the 36 year old to continue his boxing career. Floral tributes and a lit candle were among the items left at the entrance of Evolve Gym in Colindale, north west London, owned by Joshua's late friend Ghami, who also tragically lost his life in the crash.
