BOXING TONIGHT - Express Sport provides you with everything you need to know ahead of Saturday night’s action including Canelo Alvarez versus Daniel Jacobs in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez: I’m happy to add another belt to my books
Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs (IBF, WBA, WBC world middleweight titles)
Boxing fans around the world are bracing themselves for the biggest fight of 2019 so far at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez will put his WBA and WBC world middleweight titles on the line while Daniel Jacobs brings his IBF belt to the table as both look to unify the division.
It will be the Mexican’s second bout of his £278million deal with streaming service DAZN, the most lucrative contract in sport’s history.
Gennady Golovkin could take on the winner of the contest having already faced both fighters and a trilogy clash with Canelo remains a firm possibility depending on Saturday night’s outcome.
Canelo was last in action in December when he breazed to victory against Rocky Fielding by TKO in New York.
But this will be a different spectacle, Jacobs is a notoriously reactive fighter who will look to capitalise on mistakes and many believe this is the best fight that can be made at 160lb.
He first made a name for himself when he took Golovkin the distance in 2017 but the Miracle Man knows his chances of winning on the scorecards this Saturday will be incredibly slim.
TV channel and live stream: The unmissable clash with be shown on Sky Sports Main Event and Action at 12:30am and DAZN in the United States.
Fight time: Canelo vs Jacobs ring walks are set to take place at 4:15am BST but could be delayed if the undercard overruns.
Odds (SkyBet): Canelo 2/7, Jacobs 3/1, Draw 20/1.
Express Sport prediction: There’s no doubt about it, Canelo is the strong favourite heading into this contest which is likely to go the distance.
We’re backing the Mexican to win by unanimous decision on the scorecards, although he could stop Jacobs late on.
Daniel Jacobs says he and Canelo Alvarez are the 'two best’
Former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi has refused to rule out the possibility of a Canelo vs Golovkin trilogy fight.
“A third rematch could potentially happen of course,” Malignaggi
“But one thing we don't want to do is overlook Jacobs. I think that's a great fight and it will be a great spectacle to watch.
“Stylistically he [Jacobs] could cause him problems.
“If it's the Jacobs we saw in the Golovkin fight, that would make things really interesting.”
