Boxing news - Anthony Joshua denial from Eddie Hearn
Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has denied suggestions he ever wanted the WBA (Super), WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion to face Tom Schwarz, who will do battle with Tyson Fury on June 15.
“Don’t be absolutely ridiculous. Am I sure? 100 per cent,” Hearn told IFL TV when asked if he ever considered pitting 'AJ' against Schwarz.
“When are you talking about? For his debut? No, no. I might be talking in like his [Joshua’s] sixth or seventh fight, not taking the p**s, genuinely, at that level, did someone say to me, ‘What about Tom Schwarz?’ I don’t know.
“From when he [Joshua] won the world title, even before that, no. Maybe when he boxed the likes of the Russian [Denis Bakhtov] or Jason Gavern, those kind of people, you know when he was like 6-0, 7-0, 8-0, did someone say to me “what about Tom Schwarz?” – who might have been 10-0 at the time – maybe. But never.”
I'd like to see him and Deontay Wilder
Boxing news - Wladimir Klitschko’s promoter talks up Deontay Wilder fight
Wladimir Klitschko’s former promoter Tom Loeffler has revealed he’d love for ‘Dr Steelhammer’ to come out of retirement and face Deontay Wilder.
"Wladimir had such a good championship run that a lot of people want to see him back in the ring," Loeffler said during an appearance on Sirius XM Boxing. "I don't know whether he's content with what he's accomplished.
"It will be his decision. He's been posting videos and photos showing the bug is still somewhere in the back of his head.
"My personal opinion is I'd like to see him and Deontay Wilder. That would be a tremendous fight."
Boxing news - Tyson Fury’s coach makes admission
Fury’s head coach Ben Davison believes ‘The Gypsy King’ is more likely to fight Anthony Joshua this year than rematch Wilder, who he fought to a controversial split draw last December.
“Tyson's shown that he will always step up to the mark and take the risk. Who else has done that out of those two (Wilder and Joshua)? Nobody," Davison told iFL TV.
“When you discuss with (Wilder's team) about coming to us, the conversation goes dead.
"But hopefully, we can get those fights made.
“At the end of the day, they were trying to negotiate with Wilder's team, it didn't look like we were going to be able to get them on our platform right away so we couldn't afford to sit still and we had to get something done.
“I think potentially there could be more of a chance, don't hold me to it, of Tyson and Joshua at the end of the year.”
