Scandal: Kerry Washington returns as Olivia Pope
When does Scandal season 7 start?
The new season begins tonight at 9pm ET/8pm CT (2am BST) in the US on ABC, in between creator Shonda Rhimes’ other hit shows Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder.
Scandal will return in the UK on Sky Living in November.
Last year, new episodes arrived a week after they had premiered in the US.
How many episodes are in Scandal season 7?
There will be 18 episodes this season, with the series set to end on its 124th instalment.
What will happen in Scandal season 7?
When season seven starts, Olivia is “sitting in the highest seat” as the new White House chief of staff.
“Anything that jeopardises her ability to show up for the republic is potentially a problem,” said the actress who plays her, Kerry Washington.
“Relationships are not the most important thing right now, unless that relationship serves and enhances her ability to wield her power in the ways that she needs to.”
In her new role Olivia is fighting for what she thinks is best for her country.

The “extraordinary amount” of power she has been given will reveal who she truly is, Olivia added.
Joe Morton, who plays her father Rowan, takes a lesser view.
“What’s the old adage? Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” he said.
“I think that’s what Rowan’s big worry is. When you get that much power, morality goes out the door because you think everything you’ve done is for all of the right reasons.”
