The man - whose identity has not yet been released by the authorities - has been described by those in his neighbourhood as a friendly individual and that most had not seen the incident coming.
Good Morning Britain reporter Richard Gaisford spoke to people in the killer’s local community about their neighbour.
He told hosts Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan: “Well, we’re not giving their names at this point. We’re expecting formal identification to come a little later today.
“Cressida Dick the [police] commissioner has said they’ve already seized useful forensic information. At the moment a picture of one of the dead terrorists hit social media yesterday, a group of people in Barking knew exactly who he was. He’d been living amongst them for a number of years.
“One woman told me he’d been handing out cupcakes on their doorsteps less than a week before the attack and Muslim families saying it was to celebrate Ramadan. He’d organised a number of BBQs in the area, he’d been playing football in the area with children.”
He continued: “Interestingly, we heard from one person who said they had reported him to police a number of years ago.”
