The Xtra Factor AXED by ITV as bosses ‘embrace the future with online move’
THE XTRA FACTOR has been axed by ITV after 12 years on the air.
Rylan and Matt question 5AM about tension in the group
Formerly hosted by the likes of Holly Willoughby and Caroline Flack, The X Factor spin-off has been dropped by the network as bosses “embrace the future with an online version”.
It’s claimed the decision has nothing to do with the show’s last run, which saw TV presenters Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson in the driving seat.
Instead, the choice boils down to ITV bosses’ desire to move the series online.

The Xtra Factor on linear television has come to its natural end.
A source told The Sun: “The Xtra Factor has had an incredible run on TV but the producers have realised they need to keep up with the times and move with the audience.
“The majority of young X Factor fans are now consuming the show’s extra content via social media, on the official app and on YouTube, where their clips reach millions of people.
"The plan is to build on that and focus entirely on making their digital output bigger and better.”
Richard Holloway, the Managing Director of Thames TV and Interim CEO of Fremantle Media UK, told Express.co.uk: “The X Factor confirmed the news to Express.co.uk, saying: “In the past year there has been an increase in digital engagement and online audiences around The X Factor.
A number of stars including Caroline Flack and Holly Willoughby have hosted the show over the years
“In light of this, ITV’s strategy to focus their efforts on digital means The Xtra Factor on linear television has come to its natural end. “
They added: “We’ve had great fun making the show and would like to thank Rylan, Matt and Roman for their fantastic and entertaining work on the last series.
“We now look forward to focusing on making great content for our social platforms in support of the main show.”
