Fatima Whitbread: Growing Up In Care
THIS compelling film looks at the childhood of four-time Olympic javelin medallist Fatima Whitbread, who was abandoned by her mother at birth.
After months in hospital recovering from malnutrition she was placed in care and spent the best part of the next decade not knowing anything about her parents.
In her teenage years she gained a reputation as a troublemaker but soon developed a love of sport and was adopted by Margaret, her javelin coach.
Whitbread returns to Hackney, London, where her life started to see if she can confront her memories and gain strength from putting them behind her.
She also meets young people in care and finds out how things have changed.
