Black Doves Season 2: All we know about Netflix's hit thriller including new cast

Netflix's critically-acclaimed thriller, Black Doves, is coming back for a second season and the series follows the eponymous spies-for-hire organisation. Renewed for a second season ahead of even making its debut back in 2024, the Netflix series was well-received by critics and it earned Keira Knightley a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in TV Drama.

The first season saw spy Helen (Knightley) learn that her secret identity was in danger after her forbidden lover was murdered. Sam (Ben Whishaw), her old friend, was brought in to protect her by her handler, Reed (Sarah Lancashire). The final episode through up some shocking twists, including the fact Reed's daughter was the nanny of Helen's children. Here is all we know so far about Season 2.

Is there a release date for Black Doves Season 2?

At the time of writing, an official release date has not yet been announced, however Good Housekeeping reported it was expected to arrive before the end of 2026.

Filming for Season 2 started in London around November 2025 and was scheduled to wrap after a 20-week shoot in mid-February 2026.

What will Black Doves Season 2 be about?

Season 2 will see Helen's husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) prepare to step into the daunting and dangerous role of Prime Minister.

Once again Helen will be reunited with her best friend, Sam, with Netflix’s official synopsis stating: “As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything.”

The show's creator, Joe Barton, added: "I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family.

"To have so many [members] of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same.”

Who is joining the cast of Black Doves Season 2?

While the familiar faces from the series will be returning, there are some new additions to the cast, including One Day star Ambika Mod as Laila, an "acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent sent to help Helen on a mission".

Control actor Sam Riley will play Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organisation who offers Sam a lifeline.

Alien: Earth's Babou Ceesay plays Mr Conteh, a Black Doves executive with alterior motives.

See actress Sylvia Hoeks will star as Katia Chernov, along with The Lincoln Lawyer's Neve Campbell as Cecile Mason.

Rounding off the cast is Ant-Man and the Wasp actor Goran Kostic as Alexi Chernov and Not Safe for Work actor Samuel Barnett as Jerry.
