'Completely captivating' period drama hailed 'best show ever' streaming now
Set in the late 1920s, the drama follows four young women whose lives change after they are given some independence.
Fans of period dramas are being urged to watch a Netflix series that has been hailed the "best show ever" by fans. The five-season series on Netflix, which is home to many 'masterpiece' period dramas, is made up of more than 40 episodes and sees a modern telecommunications company begin to operate in Madrid, Spain.
Four women notice how their lives change after joining the company, which offers them decent pay and some independence. They each have a different reason for joining the company - for some, it is a means of escaping their old lives and for others, it is their only chance to provide for their families. Cable Girls is the title of the show in question and it sees the four women begin to form a close friendship as they navigate the hardships working women faced in 1920s Spain.

The series, which was filmed in Madrid, has seen various locations across the city transformed to transport viewers back to the 1920s.
For the final season in 2020, Netflix recorded a short documentary about the 'last cable girl' of Spain, Magdalena Martín, who operated a manual telecommunications station in Polopos, Granada, until it closed in December 1988.
Fans took to IMDb reviews to share their thoughts on the series, with many branding it the "best show ever".
One added: "Best show I have ever watched!!! Once you start watching it you just can't stop. It is honestly the best show I have ever seen come on Netflix."
Another commented: "Each of these ladies has a story to tell and the way their stories are told, is thrilling, intriguing and leaves you hoping that the episodes never end.
"To be honest, I watch it in Spanish because the translation to English does leave a little to be desired. But this has quickly turned into one of my favourite shows and one that I have no doubt I will re-watch over and over."

While the show is unique in its narrative, the inspiration came from young female office workers all over the world in the 1920s, who were moving to progressive, modernised cities in hopes of landing a steady job as a telephone operator.
Setting the series between the beginning of the feminist movement in Spain and women gaining the right to vote "emphasises to viewers that while the characters may be fictional, a woman's fight for a place in the tech workforce and a seat at the table is still a real-life issue", Bustle reported.
