Good Morning Britain anchors Kate Garraway and Paul Brand joined one ITV reporter live outside BBC Studios in London the morning after presenter Scott Mills was sacked from his role – grinding to a halt for an update on the axed Radio 2 star. Mills was reportedly let go over the weekend over a complaint regarding his “personal conduct”.

Paul and Kate went live to correspondent Nick Dixon, who explained: “This has all happened very quickly, and as much as the BBC has appeared to act quite decisively here without giving any detail of what exactly has happened, it is yet another very high profile presenter leaving in really quite a challenging situation with many difficult headlines for the BBC this morning.

Scott Mills was a very popular presenter on the network over a long period of time, he had a career in television and in radio. He started on Radio 1, moved to 5 Live of course and ended up presenting the flagship Radio 2 breakfast show.

“He signed off on Tuesday of last week from his programme seemingly unaware that anything was about to take place.”

After playing the clip that saw Scott telling listeners “see you tomorrow!”, Nick continued: “Scott Mills sacked from the BBC over allegations surrounding his personal conduct.

“The way in which the BBC has responded so quickly does suggest a real shift within the organisation.

“Reports this morning that the sacking of Scott Mills are being linked to a 2016 police investigation into serious sexual offences against a teenager.

“The Mirror have published a statement from the Metropolitan Police saying that the case was ultimately dropped due to lack of evidence. We haven’t been able to verify that statement from the Met Police.

“The BBC, however, will be focusing now on Scott Mills’ replacement for their flagship Radio 2 breakfast show. The frontrunner at the moment appears to be Vernon Kay.”
