One Death in Paradise star has shared that filming on a Caribbean island isn't all it's cracked up to be - as they blamed it on the BBC trying to cut costs. The beautiful backdrop of the fictional Saint Marie looks like absolute paradise. However, the BBC crime drama is actually filmed in Guadeloupe - a butterfly-shaped island based in the Caribbean.

However, filming in such a beautiful location still comes with some challenges, as explained by one of the show's guest stars from one of the previous series. Actor Guy Henry shared that some of the team are not well-equipped to handle the island - him included. Henry took on the role of Ray Saunders, the criminal former boss of Honore Police Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles), who wound up dead while on the island.

Speaking ahead of the release of his new film Time Travel is Dangerous, he told GB News that his short stint on Death in Paradise was a rather "tough gig".

He explained: "Yes, I was dead within minutes of going to Guadeloupe - which I loathed, by the way! I'm not very good in humidity of 99.9 percent, mosquitoes, 38-degree heat and pouring rain."

The star continued: "I had to lie around because they'd film it out of season to save money. Everybody would keep saying, 'Oh, you went to Guadeloupe,' and I said, 'Yes, at the wrong time of year!' Even the bars and restaurants weren't even open... a disaster."

Although he wasn't a fan of the location, Henry still admitted that he had "great fun" while filming for the series. He added that Ralf Little, who played the show's DI at the time of Henry's appearance, was "great to work with".

Henry said that Ralf was "very welcoming" and "was delightful".

As well as Death in Paradise, in recent years Henry has enjoyed stints on the small screen in Sky's Lockerbie, Paramount+'s The Burning Girls, and Netflix's Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
