A fresh drama drawing inspiration from a true-life tale and romance between JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette is currently streaming and showcases other prominent figures as central characters.

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is available now on Disney+ with the opening three episodes already released.

It marks the latest anthology series from Ryan Murphy, though the inaugural season is created and penned by Colin Hines.

The programme itself is adapted from the book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, authored by Elizabeth Beller.

Whilst the emphasis lies on the romance and dynamic between the son of a former US President and a successful fashion executive, other notable moments and individuals are also depicted, reports the Mirror.

This encompasses relationships the couple were engaged in prior to encountering one another. For Carolyn, this represented the period she spent dating Michael Bergin.

But who was he? And what became of him? Here's everything you need to know.

Who is Michael Bergin and what became of him?

Michael Bergin was a model turned actor who launched his career as the successor to Mark Wahlberg in a prominent Calvin Klein campaign. The series Love Story indicates that it was Carolyn Bessette who recommended him as a candidate to Klein himself.

It's hardly shocking if this proved accurate given they were allegedly in a relationship whilst Bessette worked as a publicist for the firm. This prominent position led to Bergin strutting catwalks globally and appearing in campaigns for numerous leading brands.

He ultimately transitioned into acting, with his most recognised part being J.D. Darius in Baywatch. He portrayed the character from 1997 to 2003, entering the programme during its ninth series.

He latterly featured in the four-part documentary After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun in 2024 for Hulu.

Bergin also made some rather contentious assertions about his connection with Bessette years later. He penned a memoir entitled The Other Man: A Love Story and within it he claimed the duo conducted an affair whilst Bessette was wed to JFK Jr.

Publicising the publication, he told CNN: "I just wanted closure ... I'm the only one left in this, like, love triangle still living, and I want to just move on with my life, with my kids, with my fiancée, and get on with my life. And I wanted John and Carolyn to just finally rest in peace, and I wanted their families to stop hurting."

Nevertheless, Beller's book, which the programme draws upon for material, features Bessette's friends dismissing these allegations.

Bergin subsequently married makeup artist Joy Tilk in 2004. They remain together over two decades on and have two children.

His son plays minor league baseball, whilst his daughter works as a model. His most recent acting credit, as per IMDb, was in 2021.

Bergin has since transitioned into a career as an estate agent based in Beverly Hills and frequently shares updates on his social media about the properties he represents, along with glimpses into his personal life.
