Monster: The Ed Gein Story official Netflix trailer

Viewers have confessed to pulling all-nighters to binge Netflix's latest true crime offering that's been branded as utterly 'blood curdling'.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story marks the third instalment of Ryan Murphy's chilling anthology series.

Earlier seasons explored the twisted tales of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, who gunned down their parents.

This latest chapter turns its attention to Wisconsin murderer Ed Gein.

Netflix's official description reads: "In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare."

It continues: "Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein's perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades."

The complete eight-episode series dropped earlier today (October 3). In Britain, fresh content typically appears on Netflix's platform around 8am , reports the Mirror.

Yet American audiences get a head start, with new releases going live between midnight and 3am across different time zones.

Consequently, US viewers have revealed they sacrificed sleep to dive straight into the new Monster series.

One viewer confessed: "It's 5.23am and I'm watching the Monster: Ed Gein Story on Netflix. I've been looking forward to watching this. Nothing like true crime docudrama about a serial killer at sunrise."

Whilst the programme has yet to receive a rating on Rotten Tomatoes and no professional critiques have emerged online, enthusiasts have already begun voicing their opinions.

One declared on social media platform X: "It's unnerving, grotesque, chilling, blood curdling and absolutely outstanding! Monster The Ed Gein Story is an absolute MUST-WATCH for horror and true crime fans."

Another contributed: "Omg. I started Monster Ed Gein on Netflix tonight. It's so good. I'm only on episode two and it's exceeding any expectations thus far. Layered. Historic. Meta. Brilliant. If the rest of the series is as good as this introduction, I'm completely enthralled."

Someone else commended the leading performance by British actor Charlie Hunnam, recognised for previous roles in Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim.

They remarked: "Just started Ed Gein's Monster series and Charlie Hunnam's acting of that psycho is a bit too good."

Nevertheless, others advised caution for those considering viewing the series.

Particularly, they voiced their alarm at some of the disturbing and brutal scenes featured throughout the episodes.

One cautioned: "The new Monster series on Netflix is absolutely revolting. I thought Dahmer was bad."

Whilst another recommended: "Monster: The Ed Gein Story's not for the faint of heart."

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is streaming on Netflix.
