GB News star shuts down Labour minister as migrant row erupts 'You can't just lie!'
Labour minister Mike Tapp was grilled about his colleague Darren Jones' bombshell claim that most migrants crossing the Channel are women and children.

GB News presenters Emily Carver and Tom Harwood questioned a Labour minister over recent comments made by Darren Jones. During Thursday's Question Time, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury claimed that most small boat migrants are women and children. Following furious reactions from the Question Time audience, Reform UK's Zia Yusuf interjected to say that "more than 90 per cent of them are adult men".
Government figures show a record 14,812 migrants arrived in Britain in the first five months of this year, making it the worst start to a year on record. Appearing on Friday's instalment of GB News, Mike Tapp was forced to address the controversial comments made by his colleague. Harwood said: "Number 10, today, is not willing to stand by that, but they do say they have full confidence in the chief secretary. It's just flat out wrong, isn't it?"
Tapp began by defending Jones, branding him a "fantastic" minister and praising the work he has done around the economy. "Irrelevant," fumed Carver.
Tapp continued: "We do see the majority of those crossing being young men. That's not acceptable but a part of the reason for that is because they're relying on family reunion visas."
"Why would he say they're mainly children and women then? You can't just lie to the public like that!" Carver interjected. To which Tapp snapped back: "You'll have to ask Darren about that."
He added: "I think he's a fantastic minister."

Harwood pointed out that Jones is a senior cabinet minister, asking: "Will you meet with him and tell him the reality of this?"
The presenter went on to share the government's figures which say at least 70% of small boat migrants are adult men, while more than 20% are people under the age of 18.
"It's overwhelmingly men," Harwood said, adding: "It's just beggar's belief that he would say this."
Attempting to dodge addressing the claims, Tapp responded: "I work with the Home Office and I'm talking to them regularly about what I want to see going forward, hence some of the detail in the video around processing centres, more deportations, getting harder on the smuggling gangs, working in shallow water, potentially using the military.
The Labour MP concluded: "We're doing a lot of this. We're moving it forward. There is no quick fix but we're taking it very seriously."
