CNN was put on pause for a breaking announcement regarding the US economy, after Donald Trump "made a promise" to lower inflation back in January. The president said he would bring an "end to the devastating inflation crisis," bringing in tariffs and significant tax cuts. This combination, he stated, would ignite an economic boom and revive faith in the American dream. "We're at the beginning of a great, beautiful golden age of business," he pledged from the podium at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year.

Although many doubted whether Trump would achieve this, on Tuesday, CNN shared: "Investors have responded to the inflation report. Nasdaq up, S&P up, the Dow just down by a bit, but there is new data showing that inflation rates have slowed to the lowest annual inflation rates since February of 2021."

In the comment section, loyal Trump supporters took the opportunity to share their elation over this latest announcement.

One said: "BOOM! Even CNN has to admit that inflation is at its LOWEST since 2021. Trump promised to lower inflation, and he KEPT HIS PROMISE!" Another commented: "The Best President in the world, Donald Trump, made this #Inflation thing happen. Please respect Donald Trump."

However, despite this seemingly positive news, fears over the impact of President Donald Trump’s global trade tariffs remain. According to the Department of Labour, consumer prices rose 2.3 per cent in April compared with a year earlier, and economists say it will likely take more time for the full impact of Trump’s trade tariffs to be reflected in prices across the US.

The president has long argued that his global tariffs will boost American manufacturing and increase U.S. jobs. “In the end, it’s going to be beautiful,” Trump said last month.

Economists have warned that the American people will suffer higher prices. The experts added that they view this month’s report as a way of “testing the waters".

The recent agreement between the US and China marks a significant development in the ongoing trade conflict. On Monday, both nations decided to implement a temporary truce in the trade war.

As part of this agreement, the US will reduce tariffs on Chinese imports from 145 to 30 per cent. In exchange, China has committed to lowering tariffs on American goods from 125 to 10 per cent.

Furthermore, both countries will pause their respective tariffs for 90 days while negotiations are ongoing.
