Sky News halted for major Donald Trump 'breaking news'
Sky News halted its broadcast to hear President Trump make a major announcement on acquiring Greenland in the name of "world peace."
Donald Trump says the US 'needs' Greenland in 2025
Sky News stopped its programming to air a live breaking news statement from President Donald Trump on the acquisition of Greenland. Speaking from the Oval Office, President Trump said: "We need Greenland. Very importantly for international security, we have to have Greenland. It's not a question of can we do without it; we can't." In a bold statement that has ruffled feathers across Greenland and Denmark, the 47th President declared the U.S. will "go as far as we have to go" to seize control of Greenland.
This comments came right before a high-profile visit to the Arctic island by Vice President J.D. Vance. Vance, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, led the smaller U.S. delegation. Originally, the group planned a more extensive tour that would include Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, and even a dog sled race, but the VP only visited the strategically significant Pituffik military space base in the northwest.

VP. Vance was heard speaking to soldiers before his speech, saying: “The Trump Administration is really interested in arctic security. It’s a big issues and its only going to get bigger.”
Vance, 40, said Air Force Two flew over some “pretty cool spots” approaching the northern coast of the world’s largest island before he sat down for lunch with some of the roughly 600 US troops at the Pituffik Space Base.
Speaking to troops and media, Vance said: “Why does the this Greenland mission matter so much? If a missile was fire from an enemy country or submarine to the U.S., it is the soldiers here that would warn the United States. We need to ensure that America is leading the arctic because if we don’t others will. We want to lead in the arctic for the next generation.”
He continued by explaining that it was the flaws of Denamrk’s leadership to invest in the regions security that raised concern. “Demark over the last 20 years has failed in some ways because this base is less secure than it was.

China and Russia have taken greater interest in this region and Denmark has not kept pace and devoted the resources necessary to keep this place and the people of Greenland safe. You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland. That has to change.”
Speaking about the people of Greenland, Vance added: “we respect the self determination of Greenlanders, our argument is not with the people of Greenland, it’s with the leadership of Denmark which is underinvested in its security,” claiming that China and Russia have a clear interest in the terriotory and ignoring it would be a grave mistake.
Trump's aggressive pursuit of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, hasn't eased despite the international backlash.
Trump has repeatedly, in both his first and second terms, raised the prospect of the U.S. obtaining Greenland, whether through purchase or other means. During his March speech to a joint session of Congress, Trump said the U.S. would acquire the strategic territory "one way or the other."
