Gladiators: Referee steps in to tie shoelace

The BBC has come under fire from viewers who are accusing the broadcaster of “ruining Saturday night” after pulling one hit show from air.

This weekend, Gladiators – hosted by Barney and Bradley Walsh – will not air due to the FA Cup, which is showing on the channel instead. Match of the Day is instead being shown at 5:30pm on Saturday, presented by departing host Gary Lineker.

It means Gladiators fans will have to wait an extra week to see contenders take on the reigning champions – and they’ve taken to social media to make their complaints known.

One moaned: “No Gladiators on BBC One this Saturday? Instead it is pointless FA Cup. Not impressed, not everyone wants to watch football on a Saturday night #Gladiators.”

Someone else said: “No #Gladiators next week for football, f****** rugby b******* on ITV as well. Saturday's best night for TV and you’ve got sport ruining it.”

Another fan suggested: “No Gladiators tonight because of FA Cup. Surely there should be a compromise and Newcastle and Birmingham face off at Duel, Hang Tough and the Eliminator.”

While a fourth said: “No Gladiators tonight. Bloody stupid, pointless FA Cup football. Fumin’ I am.” And another fan echoed: “Called it from a mile away. Cancelled due to the FA Cup yet Michael McIntyre is still on after the game. Makes no sense @BBCOne.

“Best way around it would be to drop the latest episode on iPlayer and air it tomorrow instead. Don’t promise a time slot you can’t keep!”

As things stand, Gladiators will air next weekend at 5:50pm on BBC One instead, while a live rugby league game airs on BBC Two from 5:15pm.
