Emmerdale seems to have confirmed a 'return' for Zak Dingle in a heart-wrenching twist.

Steve Halliwell, who played the beloved character Zak since 1994, sadly passed away last December at the age of 77. Following Zak's death, the soap's creators have incorporated a death storyline. Recently, Zak has been mentioned as living in Scotland with his granddaughter Debbie (Charley Webb).

However, this week, the villagers were informed that Zak had tragically died. In Monday's episode (October 14), Moira (Natalie J.

Robb) broke the news of his death to her husband Cain (Jeff Hordley). Cain and Sam (James Hooton) then travelled to Scotland to bring Zak home one last time.

Later in the week, a funeral is held, and a long-lost relative makes a surprise appearance at the graveside, shocking the Dingle family. However, spoilers for the upcoming week hint at a 'return' for the soap legend Zak, reports Leeds Live.

As viewers may remember, Zak's daughter Belle recently left her abusive husband Tom King (James Chase). Unfortunately, things haven't been easy for Belle.

Next week, she gets arrested after confronting Tom, violating her bail conditions. Back at home, Belle maintains an outward calm while secretly battling her inner demons.

However, Lydia worries the next day that Belle might not be handling things well.

Before long, it becomes apparent that Belle's mind is filled with a tumult of voices, yet she yearns to hear the soothing voice of her father Zak. Could there be a potential return for Zak's character, through flashback or voiceover, to rescue and support Belle?

Later, Sam and Lydia are taken aback when they discover the depth of Belle's mental distress upon finding her at her most vulnerable.

Although originally planned as a short-term character, Zak transformed into one of the village's most familiar faces. Steve played the role of Zak on the well-loved Yorkshire-based soap for close to three decades.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
