Zoe Ball has finally returned to  BBC Radio 2 after being replaced on air since August 8, with her lengthy absence from the waves sparking concern with fans.

Addressing her absence on the waves, Zoe said: "Morning gorgeous people, it is the happy wanderer, I have wandered back. How was your brat summer? Was it marvellous? We did that in the 90s, it was called something different back then. Bringing back memories.

"Hope you've been enjoying some gorgeous sunsets over the last few weeks, it's a tad soggy our end this morning... take it easy out on the roads.

"Thank you to the newly crowned champion of Race Around the World Scott Mills for looking after you for the few weeks, I love you Scott."

She then asked fans: "By the way, what have I missed?", as she asked listeners to text in, before adding: "I've missed you."

Zoe then revealed she'd been sent a message from a listener called Gavin as she said: "No I didn't go to Turkey for a new face and teeth, what are you saying?"

Zoe sparked panic when she mysteriously vanished from her presenting duties back in August after seemingly confirming she would be on air on Friday August 9 to interview singer Will Young.

However, fans were left confused when they were instead greeted by Scott Mills. He told listeners at the time: "Good morning! You weren't expecting me were you?

"Welcome to Monday, this is Scott Mills. If you set your alarm to go off every morning at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out, you have not overslept until 2pm, I'm here doing the breakfast show, so do not panic, you're not late for work."

He continued: "If you've just put us on this morning, it's Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks.

"I'm sending you all my love Zo as are the team."

BBC later confirmed to Express.co.uk that she would be absent for the rest of August and would be returning to air in September.

As concerns have grown about her lengthy absence, which BBC told Express.co.uk was a scheduled holiday, her son Woody Cook also spoke about their home life.

He told Mail Online: "My mum and I like to keep our private lives to ourselves but I will say I have stepped up and spent a lot more time with her recently as she has always been there when I've had tough times.

"I'm glad to see her smiling."
