Emmerdale is gearing up for a shocking DNA revelation in the upcoming episode as a fresh face makes an entrance into the village.

In the forthcoming scenes of the popular ITV soap, Eric Pollard's car breaks down, preventing him from attending an old friend's funeral.

Victoria Sugden steps in to help, offering to drive him there. However, upon their arrival at the church, Victoria inadvertently causes a stir with the grieving son at his mother's funeral.

She is taken aback when she learns his name is John Sugden. Later, Eric awkwardly reveals that John could potentially be her half-brother and the son of her late father, Jack Sugden.

In an unexpected turn of events, Mackenzie Boyd receives a call about a nearby breakdown back in the village, and it turns out to be John, who has just arrived. Eric and Victoria are surprised to see John again, and his presence in the village soon stirs things up. But is there a familial connection between Victoria and John?

The Sugden family, one of the iconic families in the Dales, has been dwindling in size over recent years, with only Victoria and Sarah Sugden remaining in the village.

Actor Oliver Farnworth will make his debut as John Sugden next week, a familiar face to soap fans.

The 41-year-old star has previously starred in both Hollyoaks and Coronation Street, where he played Andy Carver, a friend of Gavin Rodwell, Michael Rodwell's son.

However, Andy's stint in Weatherfield was cut short when he was killed off by serial killer Pat Phelan after discovering his role in Michael's heart attack.

In a new twist, Oliver is now set to stir up trouble as John Sugden, although details about his character remain under wraps. Emmerdale fans will have to hold their breath until Monday, August 5, when the drama unfolds.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
