Meet The Decameron cast including Derry Girls and Sex Education stars to soap icons

The Decameron, a dramedy set in the 14th Century, is set to captivate Netflix subscribers with its star-studded cast.

Netflix is gearing up to release The Decameron this week, teasing an unforgettable ensemble of actors ahead of its premiere.

Drawing inspiration from Giovanni Boccaccio's collection of short stories originally published in the 14th Century, The Decameron is an eight-part dark comedy that follows a group of nobles and their servants as they seek refuge in a grand Florentine villa to escape the Black Death.

As anticipation builds for the show's launch, here's everything you need to know about the stars of The Decameron and where you might have seen them before.

Who makes up the cast of The Decameron on Netflix?

Licisca - Tanya Reynolds

Born into a life of servitude, the obedient yet unpredictable servant Licisca has spent her entire existence at the bottom rung of society, serving Filomena's family.

Despite Filomena's harsh treatment, Licisca has always followed orders. However, with the threat of the Black Death hanging over them, she decides it's time to break free.

Actress Tanya Reynolds will be familiar to viewers for her role as Lily Iglehart in the first three series of the comedy-drama Sex Education on Netflix. She has also had notable roles in Emma, Delicious, The Baby and I Hate You.

Tindaro - Douggie McMeekin

Reynolds will share the screen with actor Douggie McMeekin, known for his roles as Charles Quigley in ITV's Harlots, Yuvchenko in Chernobyl and Sunny Blandford in The Crown.

In The Decameron, McMeekin will play Tindaro, a nobleman with a blatant disregard for women, making him a perennial bachelor.

Filomena - Jessica Plummer

Jessica Plummer will portray Filomena, a pampered, petulant noblewoman who relocates to her cousin's home at Villa Santa, accompanied by her servant Licisca.

Despite frequently reminding Licisca of their master-servant dynamic, it remains to be seen how Filomena will react when her loyal servant decides to revolt.

Soap enthusiasts may recognise Plummer from EastEnders, where she played Chantelle Atkins, tragically killed by her abusive husband Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith). Her other credits include How To Talk To Girls At Parties and The Girl Before.

Misia - Saoirse-Monica Jackson

Saoirse-Monica Jackson will take on the role of Misia, a subservient maid whose sole aim is to satisfy her demanding mistress Pampinea, basing her self-esteem on the approval of the domineering noblewoman.

Irish actress Jackson gained recognition as Erin Quinn in Channel 4's comedy Derry Girls, a role she held for four years until the show's conclusion in 2022.

She has since appeared in Coffee Wars, The Flash, The Doll Factory and Upgraded.

Sirisco - Tony Hale

Tony Hale, best remembered for his roles as Buster Bluth in Fox's comedy Arrested Development, Gary Walsh in Veep for seven years, and the voice of Forky in Toy Story 4, will play Sirisco.

His character is an an ill-prepared steward at the Villa Santa who is overly keen to please. Sirisco began working for his master Leonardo after they met at a brothel.

Pampinea - Zosia Mamet

Pampinea, who will soon be the lady of the villa, is described as "full of hope and absolutely lacking in self-awareness".

Actress and musician Zosia Mamet, known for her roles in HBO's The Flight Attendant, Parenthood, Girls, United States Of Tara and Mad Men, will portray Pampinea.

Dioneo - Amar Chadha-Patel

Dioneo is somewhere between the upper and lower classes due to his profession as a physician.

He is described as "cocksure" and works as the noble Tindaro's doctor and friend, using this alliance to experience the luxurious lifestyle of the noble class.

Amar Chadha-Patel, known for his roles in Willow, The Third Day, The Wheel of Time and Fifteen-Love, will star as Dioneo.

Panfilo - Karan Gill

Panfilo is a charming yet cunning man who hails from a political family in Florence. He travels to the villa hoping to secure a bright future for himself and his wife, Neifile.

Fans may recognise actor Karan Gill from Cobra, I May Destroy You, Screw and Bad Behaviour.

Neifile - Lou Gala

Neifile, played by the enchanting Panfilo's wife, paints a picture of marital devotion with her significant other; their bond is rock-solid, although their marriage has been lacking spark for quite some time.

The multi-talented Lou Gala, known for her roles in 'Julia', 'Our Crazy Family', and 'Secrets d'histoire', steps into Neifile's shoes, bringing depth to the character.

The Mangy Bandit - Ricky Champ

While not much has been revealed about The Decameron's The Mangy Bandit, we do know that he'll be played by Ricky Champ.

Champ is best-known for playing Stuart Highway in EastEnders and is currently starring in ITV's Piglets as Sergeant Daz Black.

Stratilia - Leila Farzad

BAFTA-nominated Leila Farzad portrays a "wise and steady" cook and servant called Stratilia in the much-anticipated Netflix series The Decameron.

With an impressive portfolio that includes her role as Naomi Jones in Sky Atlantic's I Hate Suzie, Lou Slack in BBC One's Better, and Mona Javadi in Black Mirror, Farzad's list of credentials is nothing short of stellar.

Netflix is gearing up for the big reveal of 'The Decameron', set to premiere on Thursday, July 25.
