Law and Order fans thrilled as season 24 adds ‘scene-stealing’ TV legend to the main cast
The 24th season of Law and Order is coming up soon and the unmissable NBC drama has just added a TV veteran to the main cast.

Law and Order season 24 has tapped award-winning TV and film star Maura Tierney as a series regular.
She’ll be joining current leads Odelya Halevi as Samantha Maroun, Mehcad Brooks as Jalen Shaw, Reid Scott as Vincent Riley and Tony Goldwyn as Nicholas Baxter.
Her addition also comes hot on the tails of two huge departures last season as Lieutenant Kate Dixon (played by Camryn Manheim) and DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) both stepped down earlier this year.
Character details for Maura’s role are being kept under wraps for now, but TVLine reports she’ll be playing a new lieutenant.
It marks her comeback to NBC’s Thursday night slot a decade and a half after her iconic stint as Dr Abby Lockhart in ER.
However, this isn’t the first time Maura has checked into the Law and Order universe.
Way back in 1991 when her career was just getting off the ground, she appeared in the season two episode Aria as Patricia 'Patti' Blaine.
Her breakout role came just a few years later, landing a spot on NewsRadio’s main cast in 1995 and appearing in almost 100 episodes.
Maura has since picked up a Golden Globe award for her supporting role in The Affair opposite Dominic West and Ruth Wilson. She has also recently starred in the major movies The Iron Claw and Twisters.
Fans were thrilled to see the legendary TV actress getting added to Law and Order’s main cast ahead of its return this October.
“Immediately ups the appeal of anything she's in. Loved her since NewsRadio,” one viewer said on Reddit.
Another commented: “She’s been having a nice little renaissance. Stole a few scenes in Iron Claw. Small role in Twisters and now this. She’s on the upswing.”
“She's always great in everything she's been in. Happy to see her getting a steady gig,” a third said.
Over on Twitter, an excited fan said: “This is top level casting for #LawAndOrder!!
“I always wished Maura Tierney would have been cast as Dean Archer’s ex-wife on #ChicagoMed. But I’ll take her on Law and Order!”
And another exclaimed: “Heck yes!!!! Love her!!!”
Law & Order season 24 premieres Thursday, October 3 on NBC.
