Countryfile: Cattle farmer discusses his indoor dairy operation

As a new episode of Countryfile aired on BBC One on Sunday evening, the show sparked backlash as viewers at home rushed to social media to vent their frustration over one particular part of the show.

Presenter Tom Heap headed to Welshpool in Wales to speak to third-generation dairy farmer Fraser Jones who has transformed his farm into a "mega farm" after expanding its size of.

As the pair spoke to one another, hundreds of cows could be seen in the background as they were kept inside in individual sections. Tom asked Fraser: "The cows that are here, do they ever see grass, put a foot in the field?"

The farmer responded: "No, so these cows are in all year round," before Tom jumped in and asked him: "Are you happy with that?" He quipped: "I'm very happy with that, it gives us better control. Cows like consistency so they have a specific diet to meet all of their nutritional requirements.

"They're eating the same everyday which then results in fewer health issues, so basically to me, the welfare here is good."
